Air Defence Radar - A solution in sight for windfarms?
The proposed Fallago Rig windfarm in the Scottish Borders has been in the headlines recently as an objection by the Ministry of Defence threatened to derail the planning application. The ground for objection was that the turbines would interfere with one of the Ministry of Defence's air defence radars and would pose a threat to national security.
Emma Dewar examines the issues facing windfarm developers due to the potential impact of wind turbines on aviation and discusses some potential solutions - including the advice Burness gave to the developers of Fallago Rig, which resulted in the Ministry of Defence withdrawing its objection.
