Legionnaires' Disease
Legionnaires’ Disease is a severe form of pneumonia caused by the legionella pneumophilia bacteria. It is normally contracted through inhalation or aspiration of contaminated water droplets, commonly from showers, air conditioning and cooling towers. The presence of Legionella bacteria is very common.
Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (HSWA) there is a duty on employers, so far as reasonably practicable, to ensure the health, safety and welfare at work of all its employees and those who are not in their employment but may be affected by the conduct of its undertaking.
