We have one of the strongest project practices in Scotland, and a high-profile client base. Burness has led a number of successful pathfinder projects, including the first UK multi-schools project to reach financial close, the first Scottish solid waste project, the first full Non Profit Distributing model (NPD) - and most recently the first HUB project to reach close.

We act on behalf of bidders, public bodies and funders on projects throughout the UK. Our particular expertise lies in education, housing, health and waste sectors, in which we have advised market leaders.

Our team has a proven track record of working successfully with project partners and other advisers to get the deal done - on time and within budget. Our experienced lawyers are enthusiastic, energetic and used to staying the course over long procurement periods. Our overall offering includes recognised expertise in procurement, corporate structures, property, planning, environment, construction, FM, and funding both debt and equity.

Our private sector clients value our knowledge and experience of public sector side procurement and evaluation in assisting them win bids, and our public sector clients appreciate our advice and understanding of the bidding and funding market.

As well as advising on new procurements, we regularly advise on project implementation, and variations to original projects. We have excellent experience of project rescue work, as well as market leading expertise in project dispute work, having advised on multi-million pound disputes in adjudication, litigation and mediation. We also have experience of secondary market deals.

The Scottish Future Trust (SFT) established by Scottish Government continues to set the agenda for infrastructure investment in Scotland. We have regular involvement with SFT, working for them and in collaboration with them.
