Burness Advises On First Major Wind Farm Funding Of The Year

Burness has worked alongside Norton Rose advising Lloyds Banking Group and the Royal Bank of Scotland on its £94million funding package for the construction of the 46MW 20 turbine Carraig Gheal Wind Farm in Argyll, to be developed by GreenPower with backing from the Ampere Equity Fund.

Financial close for the transaction was reached on 10th January 2012 in what is one of the largest UK onshore wind deals to have reached this stage in extremely challenging market conditions.

The wind farm is set to be operational Q1 of 2013 and will play a significant part in achieving the Scottish Government’s ambitious target of generating 100% of Scotland's electricity demand from renewable resources by 2020.

Commenting on the transaction, Tamar Tammes, partner at Burness, said, “We are delighted to have reached financial close on this project, especially in the current market conditions and so that the project can be operational ahead of the dip to 0.9 ROC/MW. We enjoyed working closely with Lloyds and the Royal Bank of Scotland, also specialists in the renewables sector, on this important transaction. Our energy & renewables team has very strong credentials in the wind sector, and we are delighted to have been able to add this transaction to our achievements.
